Brisbane Women’s Correctional Centre (BWCC) Group Conscience (online) Minutes – 03/08/2024

Brisbane Women’s Correctional Centre (BWCC) Group Conscience (online) Minutes – 03/08/2024

Attendees: Meredith (chairperson & minute taker), Fran, Yvonne, Kylie, Amy

Apologies: Monique

Group discussed concerns raised by BWCC regarding distributing attendance letters, handing out NA literature at meetings and advising conflict of interest.

We agreed:

  • Attendance letters will be provided directly to the women by the NA facilitators at the end of each meeting.
  • To use the H&I Hub email, if preferred, to protect anonymity when signing attendance letters.
  • Only NA pamphlets will be handed out at meetings. We will recommence donating literature to the BWCC libraries 3-4 times per year.
  • Where we know prisoners outside of BWCC the prison will be advised by email to determine potential conflict of interest.

New business

The group discussed the need to improve the BWCC process to call up the women to Education for the NA meetings. It can take 30 minutes before the women arrive at Education often with the need for a second call up. This results in meetings not starting until closer to 1.45pm which, alongside the need to finish before 3pm, means we the meeting time is reduced.
