Items for Discussion:
Old Business:
Item 1.
Logan becoming an independent Area.
This topic was discussed at length.
David explained how areas are formed and the regional requirement to be seated as an area.
Michele explained service rotation.
Krissy explained the ASC structure.
Dan talked about mentoring and service opportunities.
Gretel talked about experience with current structure; and Bayside would like to be in a structure where they felt understood and supported.
Members present that had attended the Northern Australia Area Board meetings said they are not comfortable referring newcomers interested in service to the meeting.
Mel asked how will people know?
Jeff suggested that we hold an information session at the next GSF.
Outcome:
Positive feedback from members about Logan fellowship being unified and becoming an Area to serve the local fellowship.
Next GSF will have a shorter meeting followed by an Information Session and a fellowship BBQ.
Members present at GSF to inform their groups and take it to their Group Conscience meeting.
Gretel informed meeting of online resources.
Michele informed participants of the Guide to Local Services available online. Krissy can send out link.
Action list:
Dan will enlist speakers to explain Area Service Committee structure and how to go about forming a Logan Area.
Jeff will book the venue.
Yeah the Girls group to organise the BBQ.
Krissy to record the meeting.
All members present to announce Saturday 7 December at 11 am; GSF then info meeting followed by a BBQ.
Item 2.
Local Service Conference for the Northern Australia Service Area (LSC).
Sunday 24th November 10am til 2pm – Online meeting; link on webpage.
Item 3.
Fund Flow and Cashless Contributions.
Cashless contributions currently going straight into the Northern Australia Service Area account. Can be accessed by contacting the Treasurer of the area.
Groups informed that Fund Flow can also be passed directly onto the Australian Region; NA World Services and/or the Asia Pacific Forum.
Kellie and Krissy to look into and account for Logan.
Krissy to re-send out information of Cashless Contributions.
Item 4.
Christmas holidays; meetings open: Bring a Plate
Christmas Eve > Daisy Hill meeting;
Christmas Day: Suggest we carpool down to Viccy Point Wednesday night meeting.
Christmas Day Orphans Lunches: Usually held at the Lunchies in Spring Hill & on the Gold Coast.
Boxing Day . Bethania meeting.
Item 5. New Draft Guidelines for the Northern Australia Area.
The Draft Document was completed and posted on the website for all NA members to read through and make suggestions. Inner City GSF demanded it be removed and a Draft Watermark be added and the error NASA be changed to NANASA. NANASA Local Service Board agreed and the document was taken down to be amended. The Policy Workgroup have now completed their project and the Local Service Board will handle it from hereon.
This brought about a discussion about the Inner City GSF making decisions that affect the whole area without seeking any input from other GSFs.
New Business
Item 1. Non-members sharing at meetings. ie. non-addicts and relatives of addicts.
Relatives of members (family members) support people and people not identifying as addicts being asked to share at out NA meetings.
This causes difficulties when family members and/or non-addicts share at our meetings.
Dan explained about the singular of purpose ad read out from the literature which is in line with our primary purpose.
Newer members not aware and unsure of what to do. Normally the Chairperson of the meeting is in charge but this is difficult at tag meetings.
Do we need a workshop on this issue?
Support person at a local meeting has taken on service positions that need to be done by NA members.
OUTCOME:
When the round the room ID is done – if people don’t ID as an addict – don’t invite them to share.
talk about this issue at your Group Conscience and raise awareness as this affects NA as a whole.
All NA members aware of this politely speak up – thank the person for introducing themselves and just let them know the meeting is for addicts to share.
the Chairperson is the leader of the meeting and can politely stop them and let them know.
This affects NA as a whole because it sets a culture of non-addicts being asked to share at open NA meetings and we all have a responsibility to discourage it. Remember Singleness of Purpose – we are there to carry the message of recovery to other addicts.
Item 2. Mack is running NA Traditions workshop online based on SPAD.
The format is that members read through a paragraph of SPAD; then share and answer the Questions from the For the Group section. Mack said it would be a regular online closed meeting and can only accommodate 6 people. Mack said it is his NA service and takes about a year to go through the cycle. Anyone interested contact Mack at Park Ridge meeting.
From this came to suggestions of a Saturday morning Traditions meeting for members to think about.
All participants affirmed Jeff and Kelly for continuing to constantly ensure the GSF takes place each month.
