Public Relations Chairperson

Snapshot of position:

  • 3 years clean time.
  • Serves a two-year cycle.
  • Prepares a report to be presented at every ARSC meeting.
  • Are considered ARSC participants (in accordance with the Policy and Procedure guidelines).
  • Attends ARSC meetings (in accordance with the Policy and Procedure guidelines).
  • Arranges for their subcommittee vice chair to attend an ARSC meeting if they are to be absent.
  • Highly desirable understanding of the NAWS PR Handbook, as well as previous experience on either Area or Regional PR Subcommittee, with at least 1 year of service.
  • It is also of importance the chair has a sound understanding of the 12 Traditions and 12 Concepts of NA.
  • The ability and willingness to maintain contact with other ARSC Subcommittee chairs is an important aspect of the role. Being able to work together ensures that our service efforts for our members are practical and useful and that our message to the addict that still suffers is carried effectively and efficiently.
  • Confident manner in public interaction is also a highly sought attribute, as there will be the opportunity to meet with and present to organisations including government, law enforcement and AOD professionals. 
  • Ability to organise events, public presentations and service workshops. As many of these are done in a virtual environment, experience with virtual platforms is considered to be a necessity in the role. The ability to look outside the square when sourcing and formulating projects is a big advantage.
  • Degree of understanding outward face of NA, e.g., social media, press, radio and television, as well as a knowledge of Office 365 and teams. Ability to navigate the website for the purpose of updates and uploading PR material. 
  • Is willing to be always reachable/available by phone. 
  • Is responsible for the organisation of PR Subcommittee meetings between and during the ARSC. Sourcing as many Area PR chairs and interested trusted servants (social media admins) to fill this committee, as well as the RCM’s that serve PR as their chosen subcommittee at region. Keeping a current record and contacts of this committee, having minutes taken for meetings and emailing them to the committee members. 
  • Conducting Public Relations sub-committee meetings inclusively on a CBDM format inspiring continuation of service and passion among members to carry over the work being done at region with a view to have members step up for election once your term is done. Keeping this conversation open and support given to all members. 
  • Would be prepared to coordinate and deliver a region-wide PR week initiative. 
  • Point of contact for trusted servants acting as admin on the NA Australia Facebook Page. Liaising with these trusted servants and vetting posts via the messenger group chat. 
  • Is responsible for maintaining add/delete contacts on a PR outside contacts database.
  • Is responsible for the archiving and storage of NA PR Assets like Banners, Posters (and digital files) for future printing, TV commercials, radio CSA’s etc. Liaising with FSO/IT regarding storage. 
  • Prepares a handover document for the incoming chair prior to leaving their position.
  • The handover document will include all ongoing matters, policies and procedures pertaining to the operation of the sub-committee.
  • Is responsible for the monitoring and responding to the info@na.org.au email account. Referring any communications to appropriate trusted servants. Taking information and requests back to PR committee for discussion on follow-up actions.
  • Ensures that the info@na.org.au email address is kept active, by logging in and sending an email at least once per month.
