Standing ARSC Subcommittees

The following are standing Subcommittees of the ARSC

  • Administration Committee (also known as the Admin Committee)
  • Indigenous
  • IT (Information Technology)
  • NA Today
  • Fellowship Development (FD), formerly known as Outreach
  • Strategic Planning
  • Policy and Procedures
  • Public Relations (PR)

The following Committees may be formed to serve the needs of the fellowship if the ARSC identifies such a need

  • Literature
  • Audio Review

Workgroups may be formed as required.

Subcommittee purpose

Subcommittees are standing committees that exist to provide support, information, and services to the Areas within the Australian region. The Chair and Vice Chair of each Subcommittee are referred to as office bearers and are elected by Regional Committee Members (RCMs), and are participants of the ARSC.

All activities undertaken by Subcommittees are carried out in accordance with the Twelve Traditions and Twelve Concepts of Narcotics Anonymous.

Items of business discussed within a Subcommittee shall be decided by a consensus of those members present at the Subcommittee meeting.

Subcommittee functions

A Subcommittee functions to

  • perform the activities assigned to it by the ARSC, per two year election cycle
  • holds regular Subcommittee meeting (suggested as monthly meetings)
  • records the progress and decisions of the Subcommittee
  • manages any NA funds assigned to it as a Subcommittee budget responsibly and provides full and complete records of funds and expenditure to the ARSC
  • reports to the ARSC, at each ARSC Meeting, through the Subcommittee Chair as to the progress and responsibilities of the Subcommittee

Subcommittee Chair role and responsibilities

The Subcommittee Chair is the single point of accountability and communication between the Subcommittee and the ARSC.

They will

  • have at least 3 years clean time
  • arrange agenda for and preside over all Subcommittee meetings
  • responsible for minutes, correspondence, and maintaining any Subcommittee files and archives associated with the Subcommittee and its meetings
  • prepares a report for each ARSC Meeting and makes all proposals on behalf of the Subcommittee. As such, they are the voice of the Subcommittee
  • opens and maintains communications with their respective Area Subcommittees and NA World Services (World Board and World Services) so that member Areas can be kept informed with relevant information and of relevant activities
  • be available to answer questions from their respective Area Subcommittees, to facilitate workshops or learning days, and provide relevant service materials

Subcommittee Vice Chair role and responsibilities

  • has at least 2 years clean time
  • attends all Subcommittee meetings
  • works with the Subcommittee Chair to ensure the smooth operation of the Subcommittee and assist with clerical matters
  • performs the duties of the Subcommittee Chair in their absence

NA members as Subcommittee participants

NA members may join ARSC Subcommittees at their discretion. However, members of the ARSC Policy and Procedures Subcommittee must be elected at an ARSC Meeting. (See also ARSC Meeting Procedures, including Election procedures.)

Participants may be removed from a Subcommittee, in accordance with ARSC Involuntary resignation procedures (See under ARSC Meeting procedures.)
